Two weeks in lockdown; two weeks in our new home.
As I sit here in my living room, looking out across the street, with music playing in the background, I count myself incredibly lucky to have a house with a garden, to have moved just before lockdown began and to have my health.
Two weeks of being isolated physically from other people has provided me with the time to reflect on what is important, both in my present and in my future. As you all know, I am an avid reader of self-help and spirituality books. It’s at times like these when the importance of the words within these books ring true. Rather than being caught up in living a life for other people, or pursuing a path shaped by society, should we not be working on projects that bring a smile to our soul? That light us up from within and that put us on our rightful path to success, whatever success means to us as individuals.
From this week onwards, for the foreseeable future, I am working part-time in my day job. My employer has reduced the hours its employees work in order to ensure the long term survival of the business and livelihoods of its employees. I applaud the way the company has reacted to this situation; I have all I need to work productively from home and the knowledge that my employer will do all it can to ensure my livelihood is secure. The extra time at home however is the true silver lining to all this. It is a golden opportunity to work on passion projects, to develop skills, and to reflect on what is important. Much like the butterflies I’ve seen flitting around our garden recently, I crave the freedom to explore, to create and to express myself in a way that only I can. Therefore, I am grateful to have this time to develop ideas and to see where my own imagination takes me. Where will yours take you?
